AA School / 3d body scanning

Body scanning at London College of Fashion
[3D FROZEN MOTION/TIME of the BODY]
In this case we took 2 scans of our body, one default scan, simple body, standing... and the second one how ever we want :)

The purpose of this exercise was to help us take our body based projects further using 3d scanning technology.

The most interesting material for me was the second scan, the first scan was quite boring.
In this scan [the second one] I was curious to see how the scanner will read the motion, or a body in motion. I was extremely pleased to see that the scanner read parts of the body in there position at that moment, translate them in partial surfaces and at the end recomposing the body from multiple surfaces of the body in different positions according to the movement... exactly what I was looking for, exploded body in motion

The first scans look like this

A simple 3d package without many details and holes where the scanner find some hair, but pretty allright.

This is a picture inside the scanner cabin being advise what to do and what not to do to can obtain a cleaner scan.

This scanner is an old and analogue way of scanning things, actually it's a dark cabin with 12 cameras displaced 3 on each corner, on different hights with a flash for each of them.
The procedure: you enter in the cabin, dressed or naked [if you are dressed with dark colors the scan will be a mess], and when the scan starts the cameras photograph your body from different angles and compose the images in a 3d map made from points.
After that you can export those points in polygons. But for complex things like my second scan the software couldn't export it on a polygonal 3d package.
The scanner is not used for this kind of scans, they use it in generally for simple scans and the software can provide them also the patterns for tailoring. Really useful thing for a fashion college.
